Our Made-to-Order Philosophy

Field Cottage Designs is an independent, artist-led clothing and design studio based in West Sussex, England.

Every garment is individually configured and produced to order. We do not hold stocks of finished, pre-printed garments.

This approach allows us to offer customers a much wider choice of garment styles, fits, colours and sizes than would be possible if we held conventional retail stock.

Rather than limiting customers to a small selection of pre-produced designs, we invite them to create a garment that reflects their own preferences.

Depending on the collection, customers select their garment type, style or fit, garment colour, artwork and artwork colour, together with any additional personalisation available.

We then prepare an individual digital mock-up of the chosen garment and artwork combination for the customer's review and approval before production begins.

Our approach is both creative and considered. By producing garments for individual customers rather than manufacturing finished stock in anticipation of demand, we aim to minimise unnecessary production and unwanted inventory.

Unlike conventional clothing retailers, we do not operate a resale outlet for returned garments. Returns of individually produced items can therefore create financial loss and unnecessary material waste.

We encourage customers to choose thoughtfully, consult our sizing information and review their artwork carefully before approving production.

Our returns arrangements reflect the individually produced nature of our garments while respecting all applicable statutory consumer rights.
